Garland, adjunct professor in the University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine and Public Health. “But this paper and past research indicate there is a strong association.” Researchers at the University of Birmingham reported last year that higher levels of vitamin D could help optimize muscle strength. To conduct the study, participants were measured for active and inactive vitamin D levels, along with their overall physical characteristics, such as body fat and muscle bulk. It was found that increased levels of active vitamin D can promote and optimize muscle strength. “We found that the receptor which vitamin D is known to act through was present in muscle from our research volunteers,” Zaki Hassan-Smith, PhD, lead study author and clinical lecturer at the Institute of Metabolism and Systems Research at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, told Healthline in an email last year. “We also observed associations between serum vitamin D levels and a number of genes that are involved in muscle function.” Since sunlight provides vitamin D and since many people tend to feel more depressed during the low-light winter months, it stands to reason that there’s a connection between vitamin D and depression. A 2008 study found that increased vitamin D supplements significantly reduced symptoms of depression in overweight and obese people. A more recent study concluded that people with low concentrations of vitamin D were more likely to be depressed. A study out of Ohio University earlier this year used high-tech nanosensors to analyze the relationship between vitamin D levels and heart health. The nanosensors allowed researchers to observe endothelial cells, which line blood vessels and help regulate blood circulation and cardiovascular health. Various ailments that strain the cardiovascular system, such as hypertension and diabetes, can cause damage to these endothelial cells.

North Korea is feverishly promoting tourism to the impoverished country now that international sanctions are starting to fray at the seams. The North has recently formed a joint-venture travel agency with China to promote package tours to the North in Taiwan. According to the Yomiuri Shimbun last Friday, a representative of the [North] Korean Heritage International Travel Company held a press conference in Taipei last Thursday to celebrate the opening of a branch there. "Travel to North Korea is booming despite the continued UNSC sanctions," he said. "The number of Chinese tourists jumped from about 100 a day before May to about 1,000 a day now." The company is the first North Korean-Chinese joint-venture travel agency, owned 51-49 by the North Korean cultural bureau and a Chinese travel union. It is openly promoting package tours despite the UNSC's ban of any joint venture with the reclusive country since Jan. 9 this year. The head of the company said, "It seems that China's regulations have been disappeared as the international environment has turned favorable since the North's summits with China and the U.S." "There is even a prospect of homestays with North Korean families from September," he added. This agency plans to open another branch in Australia. Meanwhile, a visa-free market has been set up on the Chinese border to sell North Korean seafood to Chinese tourists although the trade is banned under UN Security Council sanctions.
(The red area indicates where the center of the system is expected to track. Keep in mind that impacts can occur well outside the forecast path.) Potential impacts to Japan include heavy rainfall and strong winds beginning Saturday. However, it's too soon to know exactly where the heaviest rain and strongest winds will be. Some heavy rainfall is possible ahead of Jongdari due to the upper-level low. Jongdari's remnants could also bring some rain and gusty winds to South Korea early next week. This setup will also help to bring an end to the record heat. A deadly heat wave began last week and resulted in Japan recording its highest temperature since records began on July 23, when the temperature climbed to 106 degrees (41.1 degrees Celsius) in Kumagaya, about 40 miles northwest of Tokyo. The heat wave came after devastating floods in early July that caused more than 1 million people to flee their homes in western and central Japan. This would be an unusual track for a typhoon this far north, as the jet stream typically causes systems to curve northeastward at this latitude. Typhoon Lionrock in 2016 took a circuitous path that caused it to make landfall in northern Japan from the southeast. Most tropical cyclones approach Japan from the southwest or south and track northward across the country.
Farmers’ role as providers of Wales’ food, environment and landscapes has been highlighted in NFU Cymru’s new bale sticker and gate banner campaign ahead of the Royal Welsh Show. The major routes to the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd will once again be lined with NFU Cymru’s campaign message thanks to colourful gate banners and eye-catching bale stickers highlighting the important contributions that Welsh farmers make to producing our nation’s food, caring for and enhancing the environment and providing the backdrop for scenery that attracts millions of tourists every year. NFU Cymru’s new bale stickers feature three simple messages – We Are Feeding a Nation, We Are Enhancing the Environment and finally We Are Supporting Tourism. The gate banners, which feature the same important messages, also feature pictures of the food Welsh farmers produce, the beautiful environment enhanced by farmers on a daily basis, and one of the many Welsh mountains that tourists come from far and wide to climb each year. John Davies, NFU Cymru President said: “As Welsh farmers we produce the nation’s food, we care for, and enhance, our environment and we support the Welsh tourism industry – this is something to be extremely proud of. With Brexit looming, it is a vital time for our industry and we need farmers to be loud and proud about the work they do – these new bale stickers and gate banners are the perfect way for Welsh farmers to tell everyone about the important role they play for Wales. “The new design of this year’s bale stickers and gate banners stand out along Wales’ roadsides and the routes to Builth Wells are already lined to remind those travelling to the Royal Welsh Show just how vital Welsh farmers are to the economy. We want to show everyone just how much work Welsh farmers do to put food on the tables of every home in the country, to look after the environment and to support the tourism industry as part of our daily work.” NFU Cymru is asking social media users to help spread the We Are Welsh Farming message by sharing pictures of branded bale stickers and gate banners that they see out on the roads leading to the Royal Welsh Showground and across Wales. Also tell us what Welsh farming means to you – tag your pictures with #WeAreWelshFarming or #NiYwFfermioCymru hashtags to show your support for Wales’ farmers.
Examples include beans, peas, lentils, and soybeans. David said: “These foods are all high in fibre and protein, which is what makes them good for you, but also what makes them hard to digest. Because legumes are packed with fibre that our bodies can't absorb, our gut bacteria goes to work on them instead, which causes gas and bloating. “To avoid this, try eating legumes with whole grains that are easy to digest like rice or quinoa, or soak dried beans overnight, which helps to break down non digestible fibre.” Even though they’re usually eaten in small quantities, onions are one of the main dietary sources of fructans - soluble fibres that can cause bloating. David explained: “Those that are sensitive to fructans will have discomfort especially when consuming raw onions. Cooking the onions may reduce these digestive effects. Alternatively, fresh herbs or spices can be used an alternative to onions.” Popcorn can cause bloating simply because of its volume, said David. He added: “There isn't anything specific in this popular snack that causes bloating; it's simply the volume of popcorn that most people eat which causes your stomach to expand more than usual. A typical snack size bag of popcorn is around 25-30g, which is a lot of popcorn for your stomach to hold.” Stomach bloating: Watermelon contain fructose which can be difficult to absorb Ready meals and processed food in general should be avoided if you’re trying to slim down, or stop bloating. These sorts of foods contain tons of artificial ingredients which lengthen the shelf life of the product, but these can be harmful to your body. David said: “Most ready meals are also devoid of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. Synthetic vitamins and minerals are pumped into the food instead, but these components are not nearly as good as the original sources, and far harder for the body to digest which can result in bloating and digestive discomfort.
The company tries to stress that mobile-friendly content ranking is different from mobile first ranking. This sounds a bit like double-talk but what they are saying is that a website with no mobile friendly pages will not incur any additional ranking “penalties.” The overall trend is clear. Google wants fast-moving, mobile friendly, and mobile content-rich pages. Follow these practices, and page rankings will improve. The full information about this change is available here from Google. One final note. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) are not a consideration (yet) for Google in search rankings. But with Google having a stake in AMP pages , that may be the next hurdle to consider in Google rankings. Have you done a checkup lately on your eCommerce site’s mobile experience? Campbell also served on the National Dairy Council’s Whey Protein Advisory Panel during the time this study was being conducted. The study is led by Robert Bergia, a Purdue graduate research assistant. Joshua Hudson, a Purdue postdoctoral research associate also contributed. “Whey protein supplementation, when combined with physical activity, is shown to be an effective strategy to achieve a leaner body composition in men, but notably, females are underrepresented in this line of research. Sixty-eight percent of studies in the most-cited whey protein supplementation review included only males and we wanted to focus on what this means for women,” Campbell said. More than 1,800 nutrition articles were screened across journal databases to identify 13 suitable studies with 28 intervention groups that were related to this topic. The studies were selected based on specific factors including the inclusion of healthy women participants, consumption of whey protein supplements, exercising, information on changes in lean body mass, and a minimum of six weeks’ duration for each of the studies. “Although more research is needed to specifically assess the effects of varying states of energy sufficiency and exercise training, the overall findings support that consuming whey protein supplements may aid women seeking to modestly improve body composition, especially when they are reducing energy intake to lose body weight,” Bergia said.
