Notre Dame Prep Head Coach Mark Nolan notified players Tuesday that he had been suspended. Parents who attended a meeting with school officials Tuesday night said Nolan will be suspended for the remainder of the season, which ends Friday. The move was announced after parents sent a letter from a high-profile lawfirm Tuesday morning, demanding the ouster of both the head coach and schools president. Nolan and President Jim Gmelich declined to comment. Parents repeated calls for both Gmelich and Nolan to resign at Tuesday night's meetingand doubled-down on demands that the school appeal the postseason ban. The meeting ended without a decision on the appeal, parents said.An appeal must be filed by the end of the day Wednesday, according to the law firm representing the Notre Dame Prep parents. Football families are hoping that self-imposed punishments among Notre Dame leadership may convince the Arizona Interscholastic Association to reverse its decision last week to place the school on probation, which resulted in an automatic ban from the postseason . The parents justifiably believe that their children should not pay a price for the actions of adults who were entrusted with their care, education, and physical development, the letter on behalf of Notre Dame Prep parentsstates. The letter, sent Tuesday morning by Rose Law Group, is addressed to Superintendent MaryBeth Mueller at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, which oversees the private Catholic school.
